"I was born with feminine strength, to overcome obstacles"

Monday, 25 January 2016

Pint-sized Donatellas walked the runway at Atelier Versace's Haute Couture show in Paris. From the iconic smokey eye, nude lips, tousled hair and slinky but structured garments. This show itself was the perfect way to begin Paris Couture Week. Every women on the runway emulated power, strength and femininity. I was honestly in awe.

The pieces have be designed to look as though they have exploded, then carefully reassembled with Swarovski ropes. At this point my mind was exploding at the genius idea, that was the theme itself. Couture was arguably only for the wealthy women, wearing nothing but tailored garments enhancing sophistication. However, we now witness the evolution of couture bearing flesh and banishing the clean, well put together looks presented by fashion houses such as Dior in 1956.

One of the most intricate items of the collection was a sheer black gown, heavily embroidered on top of what resembles a black cut-out body suit, exposing the models flesh. Many of the dresses featured in the collection, billowed around the women showing the fluidity of the skirts revealing those ever famous long legs of models and of course the shoes! Strapped barely there heels. Again featuring the Swarovski ropes used on the dresses.

Elements of sports wear were also seen on the runway. Crisp white bomber jackets opening the show, with side split figure hugging skirts, cigarette trousers and a flicker of neon. Donatella herself being an exercise fanatic used gym wear as a starting point to get her design team going, labeled as 'Athletic Couture' - Again a different approach to Haute Couture.

We cannot ignore the famous faces seen in the show, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Gigi Hadid and Joan Smalls graced us with their beauty. Pictures of the ladies backstage at the show flooded social media.

Musician, Violet produced the music for the show, celebrating the empowerment and bodies of women - "I was born with feminine strength, to overcome obstacles.". The track alongside the collection worked hand in hand meshing the themes and ideas of the fashion house making it one of the most powerful and invigorating shows from Versace to date.

Au revoir mes beautés
