- Tadashi Shoji -

Japanese American born designer Tadashi Shoji captures every ounce of spring/summer with his ready to wear collection. Admittedly, I hadn't heard of Shoji until this Fashion Week and I have fallen head over heels with all the garments in this collection. This particular collection of Shaji's was inspired by Japanese springtime gardens, this is evidently translated in the intricate flower designs on the garments.

Fabrics used were lightweight and sheer, which literally glided along the runway - making the garments graceful and elegant. What really helped the deliver the dresses in this collection was the choice of colour palette. Muted purples, greens, grey and black. You could easily mistake this for a couture collection - ever single last detail showed an incredible amount of attention, flowers on the garments were sewn with metallic threads again with different blends of purples and grey. You could easily tell that Shoji had once studied fine art.

One thing I happened to notice in particular was many of the dresses had square necklines which I found interesting as there were a variety of ill fitted and figure hugging garments which all had similar necklines. This helped to break up the texture of the embellishment and helps to frame the models face.

The garments in this collection could transform any women with any figure. Shoji himself likes to tailor all of his work to all women, with the need to make them feel elegant and feminine. He wants to give these women silhouettes, embracing curves. It is known widely that many fashion houses and designer don't wish to make garments bigger than a size 10. Ridiculous right?! Shoji stands by not discriminating against women of any age or size, making garments for stars such as Oprah Winfrey. Whats not to love about this guy?

Tdashi Shoji will most certainly be a designer I will be keeping my eye on if future Fashion Weeks to come!!
